About Flip! Gym
Head Gymnastics Coach and Owner of FLIP! GYM, Halle McComb, has been involved in the sport of gymnastics since the age of three. Following in her sister’s footsteps, she began classes at a local YMCA in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. At the age of six, she was invited to join the local gymnastics team and was assessed for the purpose of participating in a much more rigorous program which would eventually lead her to elite gymnastics and possibly Olympic status. Her parents were told that she could go just as far as she and they wanted, depending on their willingness to have her train and commit to the sport at that level. Halle, along with her parents, discussed all options and chose a competitive route that would provide the most balance in their lives. Halle continued with her coaches and her gymnastics career, competing for the next 11 years, winning multiple state and regional competitions. “I wouldn’t give up my experience for any other!” she says.
Mining her love for the sport, she went on to coach after she finished competing at age 17, when she was offered an opportunity to run a summer gymnastics program before entering college. McComb went on to receive a BA in education with a minor in psychology and art. Not yet knowing that entrepreneurship was within her, she went on to take teaching jobs as well as county and state positions as an early interventionist, serving young special needs children in the Charleston vicinity.
After her own two beautiful girls came into the world, Halle and her husband Neil embarked on an adventure in the mountains of North Carolina. Together with babies in tow they created the idea of what would become a successful gymnastics business. Kidnastics—a mobile gymnastics program—was born and developed from its start in a VW bus full of gymnastics equipment and two little girls strapped in the back. Kidnastics went on to serve hundreds of children and families in the Asheville area. The McCombs eventually opened a stationary location in Black Mountain, NC. After a successful run in the mountains, circumstances led them back to Charleston, where they had originally married on the Isle of Palms beach ten years prior, and become an island family.
With a lifetime of gymnastics experience, a degree in education, and now the business experience under her belt, McComb was driven to recreate a mobile program in the Charleston area, and FLIP! was born in 2007. Proudly, she was able to touch the lives of many children through such outstanding schools as Porter Gaud, Ashley Hall, East Cooper Montessori Charter School, Chesterbrook Academy, Sundrops Montessori, Trident Academy, and many more. She also coached a small competitive program and gymnastics performance troupe that demonstrated its skills in local festivals and events. With enthusiasm and encouragement from local friends and family, the McCombs opened the doors to FLIP! GYM in Charleston the very same week that the fierce five—USA’s incredible gymnastics team—won GOLD in the International Olympics. From there, the FLIP! story is still being written. In just three short years, FLIP! GYM has been home to hundreds of young gymnasts and fostered a host of successful experiences in gymnastics and cheer. AND we commit to the flip!
